Cabochons
A cabochon is a stone which has been cut with a dome on top. This style of cut is used for opaque and patterned stones such as agate, opal, petrified wood and rhodonite. The result is a smooth highly polished gemstone for use in jewellery or as an ornament. |
Faceting
Faceting is a style of cut used with transparent gemstones such as sapphire, ruby, amethyst, emerald, etc. and is designed to bring out the full natural brilliance of the gem. |
